A Year of Growth and Service at Hillside - Diela Pop, Intake Clerk
Diela Pop, Intake Clerk
My name is Diela Pop, and I have had the pleasure of working for Hillside Health Care for a year. Now that I have finished my first year, I would like to share my experience. To begin with, because this was my first job, I received training from Jennifer, for which I am very grateful. I learned a lot about taking vital signs, handling complaints, charting, and more. I am constantly learning new things. Now that I am in charge of opening the clinic in the morning, I typically take the 6:40 AM bus in Punta Gorda to arrive on time. I engage with patients and staff daily, so I use my communication skills often during the workday.
Communication is important because it supports our collaboration at Hillside. Bilingualism is another skill that I use. For example, I use my interpretation abilities to support the doctor when it comes to patients who don’t speak English. Some times, explaining medical terms to patients in different languages can be challenging, but I find creative ways to do it. I also use multitasking as a talent in my field of work. I also often assist with mobile operations. We typically leave the Hillside compound at 7 AM and drive to the site. One of our team’s experiences was performing mobile work outside because the health post didn’t have a key. It was difficult for us, but we still saw all the patients who came to the clinic. Mobile work is always hot, sweaty, and busy. Occasionally, we do home visits for patients who cannot walk or have injuries.
I am extremely pleased to be part of the Hillside team, as it has given me the opportunity to showcase my skills and demonstrate empathy for others. Many peo ple commend the clinic for its strong commitment to helping the people of Belize, particularly in the Toledo District, and for its caring and dedicated staff, who are always striving to enhance their expertise.
